Overland Park, Kansas – The Kappa Epsilon Foundation is proud to announce that Gay Dodson has been selected as the 2013 recipient of the Career Achievement Award. The Career Achievement Award was created in 1965 to honor a Kappa Epsilon Member for their professional accomplishments.
Gay Dodson has been an employee of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy for more than 30 years. During her time with the Board, she has served as a field Compliance Office, Senior Enforcement Officer, and Director of Compliance. Today, she serves as the Executive Director/Secretary for the Texas State Board of Pharmacy in Austin, Texas and as Chair of the Texas Health Professions Council, a state organization composed of 13 health regulatory agencies. Prior to her years of service with the State of Texas, Ms. Dodson worked as a pharmacist for three community pharmacies in the Dallas area and was a preceptor for the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas-Austin.
As a member of the National Association of the Boards of Pharmacy, Ms. Dodson has served as a member of numerous committees and task forces of the association. Her experience as a pharmacist, inspector, and administrator have allowed her to make positive contributions to the Committee on Law Enforcement and Legislation and many task forces such as those created to review Prescription Monitoring Program Standards, Standardizing Pharmacy Technician Education and Training, Privacy and Confidentiality, and Regulating for Patient Outcomes.
Ms. Dodson’s dedication to community service and vast knowledge has also benefited the work of Meals on Wheels and More, the State Employees Charitable Campaign Policy Committee, various homeowners associations, the University of Texas Longhorn Alumni Band and the University Of Texas College Of Pharmacy Alumni Association. She also serves as an active member of the American Pharmacists Association, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the Texas Pharmacy Association and the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Ms. Dodson has been the recipient of many distinguished honors and awards. In 2012, she received the Outstanding Women in Texas Government Award bestowed by the State Agency Council to the Governor’s Commission for Women. She is the recipient of 2010 Texas Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists Distinguished Service Award, the 2007 Lester E. Hosto Distinguished Service Award presented by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy and the Texas Pharmacy Association’s 2006 Distinguished Service Award and 1993 Outstanding Service Award. In 2000, the University of Texas-Austin College of Pharmacy honored Ms. Dodson with the William J. Sheffield Outstanding Alumnus Award. In 1997, she received the Recognition Award for Commitment, Leadership and Dedication in Advancing the Practice of Pharmacy in Texas presented by the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In 1989, Ms. Dodson received the Linda T. Rodgers Memorial Award, an award that honors a Kappa Epsilon member who best exemplifies Linda`s characteristics of leadership, dedication, diplomacy, friendship and inspiration to others to attain higher goals and achievements.
Ms. Dodson is an Alumni Member of the Xi Chapter of Kappa Epsilon at the University of Texas-Austin. Together, we celebrate the many achievements and dedication to the field of pharmacy personified by Gay Dodson.
