National Projects

National Projects

Kappa Epsilon proudly supports Breast Cancer and Ovarian Cancer Awareness as our national service initiatives.

Each year, collegiate and alumni chapters are encouraged to develop and participate in impactful programs supporting one or both causes. Chapters with outstanding efforts are recognized at the biennial Kappa Epsilon National Convention.

The National Projects Committee provides resources and guidance to help chapters plan and execute their initiatives.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Kappa Epsilon adopted Breast Cancer Awareness as a national project in memory of Linda Rodgers, Grand Council President (1981-84), who courageously battled breast cancer during her term. Her motto, “Do it ’til they tell you you can’t,” continues to inspire us today.

Since then, KE members across the country have honored Linda’s legacy by raising awareness through impactful service and educational activities.

Ways to Get Involved
KE chapters have hosted a variety of creative and meaningful events, including:

• Breast cancer walks and runs
• Pink accessory and t-shirt sales
• Breast cancer care packages
• Educational sessions and health fairs
• Breast exam card distribution
• Guest speakers and survivor stories
• Fundraising raffles and community events
• Pink fashion shows and awareness ribbons
• Valentine’s carnations for chemotherapy patients

No matter how you contribute, your involvement helps us make a lasting impact.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness

In 2015, Kappa Epsilon expanded its focus to include Ovarian Cancer Awareness as part of our primary national initiative, recognizing its importance due to the lack of universal screening and its often late-stage diagnosis. Ovarian cancer ranks 5th among cancers in women but causes more deaths than any other reproductive cancer.

Since then, KE members have been raising awareness by distributing teal ribbons and information. Starting in Fall 2016, chapters are encouraged to host events like “Wear Teal Day” or invite guest speakers to increase awareness in their communities.

Get Involved
Chapters are encouraged to participate in both Breast Cancer and Ovarian Cancer Awareness initiatives. While participation in both isn’t required, chapters with standout programs will be recognized at our National Biennial Convention.

Examples of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Projects
• Lighting iconic campus buildings in teal
• Hosting an Ovarian Cancer 5K or Teal Gala
• Organizing beauty classes for women undergoing treatment
• Fundraising events like wig drives and concerts
• Hosting awareness luncheons or workshops

Join us in spreading awareness and supporting the fight against ovarian cancer.
